Inspired by the fact that fire stations are designated Safe Surrender sites, Fire Station 8 in San Francisco is launching a community-focused initiative by integrating an emergency women’s clinic within its facility. The clinic provides immediate, confidential, and compassionate care for women facing urgent reproductive and health needs, including emergency interventions.

By situating the clinic inside the fire station, the project ensures safety, accessibility, and trust, leveraging the station’s longstanding role as a protective presence in the community. This initiative also serves as a support hub, offering education, resources, and guidance to women while fostering collaboration between first responders, medical professionals, and local organizations.

Fire Station 8’s approach demonstrates how public safety infrastructure can adapt to meet critical health needs, providing a secure, welcoming space for women in vulnerable situations.
